SimsFilmFest “PSA”

We need to talk. Seriously. We need to talk because my frustration level with the SimsFilmFest Community is escalating and I am very close to permantly closing down the festival. I don’t want to deal with the stress, especially with my health going down toilet. I am going to speak very frankly here.

I realize there are a lot of new people to the community who have no idea of the history of SimsFilmFest. However there are those that have been around for numerous seasons and like to talk shit about the festival and in the process spread rumors and yet never bother to come forward to express any displeasure or voice concerns, offer ideas or help. I guess drama is more fun for some of you.

I am going to say this one time: If you don’t like some part of the festival, then either speak up or don’t join. You don’t need to trash talk it to anyone who will listen. If it isn’t for you, move on and do something else. If you think you can do better, join the staff and have a say in what happens or shut up. We have an open door policy where anyone can express ideas, opinions, whatever and yet no one uses it. If you don’t like how things are run, it isn’t my fault because no one speaks up. I refuse to own it. I am the one that pays for the domain and hosting – no one has ever helped with that. This is something I don’t have to do. I also don’t have to give hours of my time that I could use for something else to make the festival happen. Apparently some people need to be reminded of that.

I understand that some of you are not happy about the PSA Machinima Challenge. No one said you had to join. End of story. When Min was running this thing these kinds of challenges were done every season. An idea was put out for people to do a quick machinima for. And they were always called challenges. A number of people asked that they be brought back. I have made the effort and very few people join. It is really no big deal to me. It is there if people want it. I would really like to start getting enough of a turn out that we can do awards for them, but if we don’t, we don’t.

As for the current idea of PSAs…It makes me extremely happy that people want to assume things and read into the idea. Here is a novel idea, how about you send an email and ask questions? We are not “exploiting disabilities”. No one said that a PSA had to be about a heath thing. This isn’t some “abelist agenda” or whatever the hell people want to call it. As far as I am concerned someone could do a PSA on ant farming or how to prevent headbangers whiplash in a mosh pit or how much SimsFilmFest sucks. I really don’t care what topic people pick.

That is really all I have to say. If you don’t like something either speak up or move on. I am really sick of the petty crap that gets back to me every season. Believe me, I have heard it all at this point and it is very tiring. It has become quite apparent to me that running the festival is a thankless job. Very few people appreciate what goes into making the festival happen. At the end of the day I can’t make everyone happy and quite frankly, I am done trying.

The Sims International Film Festival was created in 2010 as a way to foster creativity in The Sims community through machinima, an art form that uses video game footage to make movies. Over the years, as new entries in The Sims franchise were released and new editing methods became available, we’ve seen a lot of changes, but one thing has remained constant: our commitment to showcasing the creativity of this community and inspiring new artists.
